Rib Mountain and Council Grounds SP 11/28/09

We were losing the sunlight, so we jumped into the Subaru and sped up to Council Grounds SP. It is about 20 miles north of Rib Mountain SP in Merrill.

After I heard a very close by gun shot (still deer hunting season), I knew it was time to leave!

What is the Wi State Parks Challenge?

OK everyone, if you are here you probably know what this challenge is all about. But if you randomly stumbled into this little corner of the internet, here is a brief rundown of what I am attempting to do... I had kicked around a plan to go see every state park in Wisconsin. Something like the National Park Challenge Lite. With some recent changes in my life I decided that I am going to get started. (isn't that half the challenge?)

I don't want to just do a drive by at these parks. The challenge will be to hike or snow-shoe or do something at these parks in addition to getting the photo of the sign. I hope to check these all off in the next year. There are 53 Parks by my count (not doing State Forests) so that means I will need to do a touch more than one a week for the next year. Seems easy and daunting at the same time!

I am also looking forward to hooking up with friends (old and new) while doing this, so if there is a state park in your area, you can be sure I will be in your neighborhood in the next year. If you are interested in participating at a park or two (or twenty) I will welcome the company! Send me a note and I will try to make it happen!
